JAMIE SPINELLO
Austin, Tx I am a full-time artist creating sculpture, ceramics and jewelry inspired by plants and insects. My current sculptural works and wearable art are influenced by research of the flora and fauna of central Texas and the plants and insects in my personal gardens. BIO:
born: Lafayette, Louisiana grew up in Jackson, Mississippi BFA 2005: University of Southern Mississippi MFA 2007: San Francisco Art Institute Austin, Tx: 2010 - present I spent most of my time as a child growing up in Mississippi and Louisiana surrounded by an abundance of biodiversity. Always curious about organisms in the undergrowth and learning about plants, I found solace in the tiny creatures under leaves and the life cycle of plants and insects. I attribute my lasting fascination with learning about and incorporating plants and insects into my current work to my early exposure to learning about them as a child. My most recent works specifically focus on my interest in geometric patterns in native central Texas plants. My sculptural works and wearable art objects are influenced by my research and field studies of the flora and fauna of central Texas and my garden. Discovery and curiosity remain driving forces behind my creative process and I strive to retain the element of discovery in the experience of viewing my creations. |
